His Inmost Being...

His inmost being is humility and meekness before God and man. In this He is the exact opposite of the great kings of the world. And a vivid illustration is the fact that He rides on an ass---the mount of the poor, the counter- image of the chariot He rejects. He is the King of Peace----and by God's power, not His own.---Pope Benedict 16 from his book, "Jesus of Nazareth"

We have an incredible and terrifying thing, our free will. We can choose to love and give our lives away to Christ and others, or, we can choose to ignore Christ and use others. This is not a one time choosing either, it is a daily thing. We have the example in Jesus the man.  He chose to love. He chose to come here, take on our flesh, feel our emotions, watch a sunset, eat fish on a seashore, and taste all the fears we taste. The book of Hebrews says we have a High Priest Who can relate to us, and one we can relate to. What does a priest do? He offers sacrifice for the people. Our High Priest offers Himself once and for all, it is an eternal, ever present offering.   I hate it when I do not choose Christ and loving others! I hate failing Him so often! But here is what is so crazy, He still chooses to love me, even when I am not very lovable. His giving us His Flesh and Blood in the Eucharist is The Guarantee that He is our High Priest forever. So when He does discipline us, we have hope.
